Description

This red 1947 Willy Cj-2A “Jeep”, Rusty, was rebuilt from the ground up with a frame off restoration, bolt for bolt, with tasteful upgrades where appropriate, and keeping some other things just how they were.

* The rebuilt engine was originally cast at the very end of the L134’s production line, mid 1950s, and had minimal enough miles on it, and was in spec, that we decided to rebuild with the original bore size. Everything else was machined and ground to spec. It currently has just over 4k miles on it. Military oil canister used for better filtration, and factory style air-bath cleaner used (best systems for good operation of this engine). The engine is tuned well enough that it starts easily with the hand crank (and comes with a single piece and two piece hand crank). I am performing some additional maintenance on it and so do not be surprised with another 100 miles on it before purchasing.
* Running specs
* Idle RPM 600 RPMs
* Voltage regulator kicks in around 1200 RPMs and holds strong
* Vacuum sits around 14.25 inHG (ideal is 22 inHG at sea level, and minus 1 per 1k feel in altitude. We are around 6420 ft, so ideal is 15.6, so 14.24 is well within the healthy range)
* Dwell sitting at 41 (ideal is 42 +- 1)
* Compression is sitting around 72ish PSI for 3 of the cylinders and more like 64 for the remaining. Based on the tests and troubleshooting it appears that it probably just needs a little valve work. A little anemic on the main roads but drives great in low 4×4 on the trails. Can drive all day long (will go anywhere).
* Has a good NOS/rebuilt Carter WO carburetor on it.
* It sports the original 6v system (all wiring replaced with factory style cloth wrapped modern fire resistant wiring underneath). Electrical system all works well, and the 6v system runs strong. Will include a 6v trickle charger.
* The only minor electrical gremlin is the steering wheel horn button is not currently working. Have an alternate press button horn tastefully integrated with the shift lever so honking does not require moving one’s hand from the shifter.
Start works and is strong. Good grounding straps all around.
* Transmission and transfer case were rebuilt using Novak rebuild components and strengthened with higher quality parts where available. The transfer case oil pan and transmission output cover were replaced with Novak billet aluminum options to increase strength and capacity.
* PTO is a dual operation civilian unit (front and rear), and has been rebuilt with new seals and chain drive. The vehicle also comes with slightly newer Ramsey winch (Pretty sure it is a 8,000lb winch), which includes all the necessary connecting shafts and pillow block to connect it to the PTO.
* Sporting the original and rebuilt Dana 25 with Spicer knuckles up front, and Dana 41 in the rear. This was built with the original factory style bolt keepers for the ring and pinion to help prevent the common grenading that occurred with these diffs.
Cooling system works well and has no leaks.
* The steering system is the original system, however, it has been upgraded with the TightSteer system, and the threaded lock pin that was notorious for wallowing out and sending these vehicles into the side of the road has been updated with a tapered bolt thus allowing far more locking capability that will never wallow out. This steering is about as tight as you will ever find one an original 1st gen CJ.
* Interior has been completely redone, floor completely replaced, tool bin installed. The sides were kept in the same shape to keep the exterior aesthetics as consistent as possible. Interior was painted with a very close Monstaliner red paint with the hope it would provide some better scuff protection.
* New seat covers and cushions. Front seats are OEM seats, the passenger seat has some factory flex in it but I have obtained and included several NOS seat legs to stiffen up the feel.
* Includes very nice dual seat back canvas tool bags that are a matching set to the canvas top.
* You will notice that the exterior paint does not look redone, this was a purposeful decision to keep the old worn feel.
* That said, you will also notice it includes a full New Life 10 piece canvas top built just like the original with proper connecting hardware. Widows are clear vinal just to make storage and use easier.
* Has good class installed in the windshield (no cracks or major chips).
* Rims are all original except for the spare, and are all wrapped in Cooper STT Pros.
* Breaks have all been upgraded to the next generation 10″ drums, with matching steel Z-break line connectors, giving it that factory look while providing enough stopping power to lock up the tires.
* Frame shoe horns in the front have been strengthened with interior reinforcement plates to help prevent the common collapsing of this area.
* Where frame parts were removed to de-rust and restore, rivet like bolts were used when reattaching frame parts to keep the visual aesthetic wh
