Why We Do We Love Jaguar Car Key Cover (And You Should, Too!)
Keyless Entry For Your Jaguar XK

Jaguar has left out this desirable feature that allows you to control the convertible roof's operation using the key fob. It would be useful to have this capability, since it would reduce wind buffeting when driving the XK.

Replace the battery if the Jaguar XF keyfob no longer is working or its range has diminished. Here's how to replace the battery.

Keyless Entry System

If you've spent a few minutes rummaging through your pockets or purse trying to locate your keys before you head out the door, think about switching to keyless entry for your Jaguar XE in Phoenix or Scottsdale. This feature provides a level comfort and security that a lot of people like. The Jaguar key fob will detect when you're within range of your XE. When the key fob is in close proximity to your car, you can open it by grasping a door handle or pressing a luggage compartment release button.

Your Jaguar key fob has an electronic chip that enables it to communicate with the Jaguar's system, unlock doors control the windows, open and close the sunroof and even remotely start your engine. The key fob has rubber seals to protect it from water damage. However, it's important to remove the holder from which it is stored to clean any electronic components that are exposed with isopropyl, or electronic cleaner and a paper towel. Submerging the key fob in soapy water or salt water can damage the circuitry, and require an alternative key fob.

The Jaguar XK keyfob comes with the option to "double-lock" your vehicle. This provides additional security against theft. However, your Jaguar key fob can stop working for a number of reasons, including a dead battery in the key fob, or an unpaired key that needs reprogramming by the dealer.

Transponder Chip Keys

Jaguar introduced a brand-new key model in 1998. This key required specialized equipment to program. These keys are equipped with a transponder, which disables the vehicle's immobiliser. The keys must be added to Jaguar's database which is usually done by a locksmith or dealer. Contrary to what many believe, not all locksmiths or dealers are equipped to handle this type of key. In fact, some have been reported to overcharge Jaguar owners for their services.

Tibbe Keys

Some Jaguars from the 1990s were equipped with a key type known as a Tibbe key. replacement jaguar key fob require special equipment to create since they have flat cuts that are precise on each of four different sides. They are not interchangeable with regular keys, and many locksmiths don't have the specialized equipment needed to cut them. This could lead to lengthy waiting times for owners that require replacement keys. Dealerships are also able to cut them but charge a considerable amount.

The lock is very interesting. It's comprised of either six or eight discs rotating that must be aligned so that the sidebars to drop into place to open the door or trunk lock. This is done by using a specially-designed pick/decoder tool that appears like a drill, and the process can be difficult. It is important to keep in mind that this tool is only to be put into the DOOR lock, never the ignition or trunk locks in this manner. Doing so will cause it to bind and break.

There are a handful of locksmiths who are experts in Tibbe keys and their costs are based on several factors, such as time and effort, the cost of consumables, equipment, etc. The adapter kit for specialized keys required to work on these types of keys can cost several hundred dollars, and they is set up by hand (or a skilled programmer can do it on a computerized key machine) for every new key created.

Key Fob Battery Replacement

Most battery packs for key fobs wear out over time, which is why it's vital to keep an extra one in the case. The easiest way to know that it's time to replace is when the key fob no longer activates or responds consistently to the buttons. Your Message Center may also alert you that your battery level is low.

The good news is that replacing the battery in your Jaguar key fob is easy, and takes only minutes at your home garage. The first step is to break the fob's cover open using the flat-head screwdriver or your fingernail. There are usually 2 seams where the fob's halves meet, and you will be able to carefully pull them apart to expose the emergency key blade.

Once the fob is open and you are able to slide the blade of the key backwards to take off the cover to reveal the old battery. It will appear like a small coin with the battery size and plus and minus symbol embossed on one side. Make sure you insert a new battery that is identical to the one you have and align it correctly.

Make sure you handle the new battery only from the sides; touching it from the bottom or top can transfer moisture and reduce battery life. Reassemble the fob, and test the buttons on the remote to determine whether they are working again. If not, contact your local Jaguar Annapolis service pros for assistance.
