Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Mulliner, Bentley's coachbuilding unit bespoke, has designed a distinctive keycase to mark the 100th anniversary of Bentley. It is constructed of Dark stained Walnut with Piano Black Veneer and includes a fluttering "B" paperweight, keys, and an album of never-before-seen 1930s 8 Litre images.

It is the perfect gift to greet a new owner of their lavish vehicle.

Aesthetics

As a design-centric company Bentley takes its aesthetics seriously. This is evident in the precise placement of its quilting as well as the use of leather made from leftovers from cattle and sustainable-managed forests, and the unique patterns of its levers. As you approach a vehicle like the Continental GT W12, its sculptural beauty is displayed through carefully selected lighting.

The Continental GT is the most sophisticated open-top Bentley ever created. The rear of the tonneau in the Continental GT, for example was the largest piece ever of dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer that was book-matched. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

It is this bespoke design, quality and attention to detail that has established Bentley as the world's most sought-after car brand. The firm continues to push the boundaries by utilizing the most advanced technology and workmanship, such as the introduction of the digital instrument cluster, an electric tilt-opening rear glass sunroof and a crafted docking station for Apple iPads, and electrochromic "smart" glass that can be changed between opaque and transparent at the touch of one button.

A century since its founding, Bentley - now under sole Volkswagen ownership following years of wrangling with BMW it celebrated its centenary in the year 2019. Prior to the pandemic plan taking the center stage, the company had a number of special events and launches planned to celebrate this historic occasion.

Design

Bentley is a luxury car maker that produces extravagant and luxurious vehicles. But even the keys make a statement. The Bentayga Key is made of sterling silver, and has the large B' logo to let everyone know that you're driving a Bentley. The key is also embossed with the dates 1919 and 2019, to mark the company’s centenary.

Bentley Mulliner redesigned and developed the Mulsanne to become the ultimate Grand Touring vehicle. The rear seats are designed to offer passengers unmatched comfort and privacy. They were inspired by the luxury private aircraft. The custom heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system was designed to provide each passenger with the perfect temperature control.

Alongside a series of elegantly executed styling revisions, the Mulsanne is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre W12 engine that is capable of producing 560bhp as well as 479lbft of torque. This prodigious power is complemented by a revolutionary suspension design that gives Bentley's signature hushed ride.

In celebration of its Centenary, Bentley introduced a custom-designed specification called the Centenary Specification for cars built in 2019. The cabin is decorated with cross-stitching as well as contrast stitching in Centenary Gold throughout. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are embroidered in Centenary Gold, adding to the sense of celebration. The Centenary Specification also includes a bespoke Bentley keycase, adding to the Bentley experience.

Function

The Bentley Mulsanne Key has two buttons that open the trunk, and another which starts the vehicle. It also has a switch that can activate the parking break. The knob can be used to fold or unfold the mirrors when parking in a tight area. This feature helps you get in and out of your vehicle.

Each key takes two days to make. The key is cut by hand, then shaped, sewed and sealed, then polished to create a high-end result. It is strong and compact, and will fit the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is reminiscent of the Volkswagen Phaeton's huge car key, but feels more substantial and premium.

Secure-A-Key is also included to help prevent keyless entry theft. The device is inserted into the remote-control fob and it shuts it down if the key is not utilized for a period of a few minutes. It blocks thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices which can be used to unlock and start the vehicle.

Bentley's distinctive design reflects the company's values of fine craftsmanship and engineering expertise. It also includes modern technology. More than 4,000 employees work at the Crewe headquarters, responsible for the development, design, and production of Bentley cars. These workers apply skills that have been handed over generations and then apply them to the latest in automotive technology. This is British manufacturing at its best.

Personalisation

Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner, allows customers to design their own vehicle. The "mood station" lets customers pick images that inspire them. These can be anything from stunning views to sporting events. Each time a selection is made, the pattern that emerges reveals the model colors, style and color preferences for the personalized Bentley.

The guests receive keys made by hand, which contains the R.F.I.D. enabled key cards. The keys can also be outfitted with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps, which illuminate the door-opening pathway with the owner's name or logo as they approach the vehicle.

Bentley estimates that it takes about 500 man-hours to construct and construct the Mulsanne. The inability to adopt modern technology is the main factor to this laborious task. Instead of employing TheKeyLab for spacers to the perfectly matched cross-stitched leather seats workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. Drivers have to park their cars manually, instead of using sensors built into the vehicle to direct them to perpendicular and parallel spots.

Bentley displayed its Mulliner personalization abilities with a unique Mulsanne W.O. Edition, that pays homage to the founder William Osler Bentley. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition pays homage to the man who founded the company, William Osler Bentley. The limited edition cars are available in 100. one key that features a portion of the 1930 8 Litre's crankshaft.
