Do Not Believe In These "Trends" About Double Pram And Pushchair
Choosing a Double Pram and Pushchair
A double pram can simplify life for families, particularly in busy shops or on busy streets. Choose a model that has plenty of storage space to store nappies as well as snacks and other essentials.
Some parents who are new to the world choose a future-proof pushchair that can be used as a single stroller at the time baby is born, and then converted to a twin mode after he or she arrives. Joolz offers a range of these options.
Tandem
The announcement that you are expecting a child is among life's most exciting moments. However, after the excitement of the beginning fades and reality sinks in, you could be faced with a variety of decisions about how to prepare your family for the arrival of your baby one or one. One of the most important things to consider is choosing the right pram or pushchair.
Tandem prams, also known as "in-line" double prams are a classic design with two seats or bassinets placed side-by-side. The front seat is usually padded and reclines to a flat angle, making it suitable for newborns, while the second seat is more upright and can accommodate toddlers from around three years of age. Some models come with the option of reversible seating, which lets you choose to have your children face one another or look at you. A lot of tandems offer the option to convert into a single pushchair if you decide your oldest child does not require the second seat.
twin stroller with car seats is more affordable than twin prams and can be an ideal choice for parents who wish to save money without losing safety or function. However, one disadvantage of a tandem is that it could be a bit heavy and lengthy to steer, especially when you're going up or down kerbs. Additionally, it is usually less stable than a twin pram especially if the child with the most weight is sitting in the front. A tandem isn't always easy to fit on public transport, and it may be difficult to navigate narrow roads.
The iCandy Peach is a popular model with a strong image that's a great option for a single parent looking for a sleeker design however, the tandem mode can make it feel quite long and heavy when pushing. It has a clever frame that expands widthways to allow for the addition of the second seat, and it can be used with a variety of combinations of buggy seats, carrycots and car seats (two at a time or in separate). The iCandy Wave is another lightweight tandem option that is easy to use and compatible with a range of car seats and carrycots.
Side by side
There are many aspects to think about when selecting a double pushchair or pram. Whether you're buying for twins or siblings who are close in age there are a variety of configuration choices to think about. Tandem prams (also called side by side prams) are popular choices as they can be set up to accommodate infants in a bassinet on the top, while the larger toddler or infant is in the second seat below.
Some models even have reversible seats, which means you can alter the seating arrangement to suit your family's needs throughout the baby and toddler years. This lets you see your children at all times, and allows them to be a part of the journey when they walk.
Tandem prams are often all-terrain buggies or jogging ones which makes them ideal for outdoor excursions and the park. They're also a great option when you have to traverse narrow checkout aisles or isles in supermarkets because they tend to be more compact than single-seaters.
The Redsbaby JIVE3 pram, for example, can be utilized in tandem mode from birth, but with the addition of the rumble seat. (PS249) It is then possible to switch to the single mode once your baby is old enough to leave the rumble seat or select the car capsule adaptors (PS53) to transform it into a traveler from infant to toddler.
The Side by Side Pram made by Babybee is another alternative. This double side-by-side pram comes in a variety of colours and is designed with a modern style. Designed to be used right from birth, you can also add the LUNA Cocoon for newborns (PS262) and the LUNA Infant Seats (PS53 each).
The Egg 2 is a stylish elegant pushchair that can be transformed into a double side-byside. It is available in a variety of infant and carrycots to accommodate twins or siblings with different ages. It's also incredibly easy to collapse. It's also fairly light making it an ideal choice for families with smaller cars or a limited storage space.
Convertible
Some of the top double prams or pushchairs can be set up to meet your needs as they change. It is possible to fit two toddlers in the seats or a third rider on the seat board, and still have room for a shopping basket, and the capability to add accessories such as rain covers is also a benefit. Most convertible double strollers are more spacious and heavier than single pushchairs as they must be able to hold two or more children. The Graco Modes Nest2Grow convertible is an example of a very inexpensive convertible that is very easy to use. However, our test participants considered it to be quite heavy for its price.
Some convertible double strollers, like the Baby Jogger City Select 2, have a carrycot option that is suitable for infants. This allows the double stroller to be compacted and reduced in size when not used. The City Select's clever, one-handed folding impressed our test subjects, but it takes some practice. It is also quite fluid and agile, despite its size.
The Cybex Mockingbird single-to-double stroller is another affordable option. It can be converted from a parent-facing infant car seat to a forward-facing toddler seat, and the bassinet mode is a great choice for infants (although be aware that babies younger than 4 months old should never be able to sleep in strollers due to the risk of positional asphyxia).
If you're looking for more flexibility Consider a convertible that has dual modes such as the iCandy Peach. It's a small double buggy that can hold two children side-by-side, but it can also be used as a tandem with the addition of a second seat kit and rider board. It's nimble and responsive and our test participants loved its sleek design. It's not as light as some of the other pushchairs in our list however it does come with a large shopping basket which is handy for parents carrying bags full of groceries and toys.
Lightweight
Convertible double strollers are an excellent option for parents who already have one child and are expecting another. The iCandy Peach can be converted from a single pushchair into double by the addition of a toddler's seat, or the brand's carrycot (which is great to sleep at night). The seats are extremely comfortable and our test subjects love the fact that they can recline in various positions. They also appreciate the fact that the canopy has a peekaboo window and UPF 50+ protection. The rear seat can be raised high to allow the child of a higher age can stand on it to reach the shopping basket.
Cher said that the only disadvantage of the iCandy Peach was its weight. However, she felt this was offset by the fact that it is easy to maneuver and has plenty of storage, including two cup holders for parents and their children seats-back pockets, as well as an enormous basket underneath the seat. Cher also appreciated that the seats can be reversed to face each other, which is perfect for siblings who want to interact and talk while out and about.
A lighter, but equally impressive option is the Delta Children LX side-by-side stroller that weighs just 18 pounds, is extremely compact and features an auto-standing fold that makes it easy to carry and store in your trunk or at home. Parents appreciate the quality of the materials and workmanship and the low price point. The only drawback is that the seats don't recline as far as other models we've examined and the rear seat isn't as well-lit because of its position - it's raised higher than the front seat.
Another popular choice is the Joolz Geo 3, which is slim sleek, stylish and easy to steer, with an attractive design and lifetime guarantee. It's worth bearing in mind that, despite their slimmer design side by side prams are wider than tandem and in-line doubles. They may be difficult to navigate through crowded footpaths or in shops. However, they're generally shorter too, so are easier to maneuver in tight spaces than tandems.
