The History Of Private ADHD Titration In 10 Milestones
Private ADHD Titration

There is a current national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and the growing demand for ADHD medications worldwide.

Our service provides private ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding via Right to Choose. Our assessments are free and include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A thorough assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted with a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist. This includes a thorough medical history and an assessment using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your examination, you will be informed whether medication may be beneficial in your case. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, via video link or by phone). Your physician will explain to you the different options available for you to take medication and, if you choose to begin taking medication, we will offer to titrate the dose to optimise the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process could take several weeks and involves gradually adjusting your child’s medication until the appropriate balance is reached. It is not uncommon to to titrate up to three different medicines before you find the one that best suits your child's ADHD. It is important that parents take part in the titration process and be aware of their child's behavior so they can inform the doctor if the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you do not decide to return to NHS care and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be provided with an individual prescription that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You will need to attend six-monthly appointments to monitor your medication. This includes the measurement of pulse and blood pressure. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the evaluation has been completed you will be able to schedule appointment with the psychiatrist as necessary. Usually the appointment will take place on zoom video call however in some instances it is possible to have an audio only consultation (again at an extra cost).

At this point we will discuss any treatment options and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration program. This will include a review of your medication dosage and an examination of any adverse effects you may be experiencing. The cost for these titration consultations is PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 for telephone or online video consultations. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The doctor will also ask you about your family background and the impact your ADHD symptoms can have on your life, including any issues with relationships you may be having or other mental health issues you may be suffering from. This is due to the fact that ADHD is an inheritable condition, and it is important that we assess any family history that may indicate whether you are at risk of developing the disorder.

During this examination, it is vital that you are truthful and open with the doctor in the sense that they will be using the information you provide to determine if you are able to meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a crucial step, since a wrong diagnosis could result in an inappropriate prescription of medication.

If you decide to seek treatment for ADHD, we'll arrange an appointment to follow-up with a psychiatrist that is skilled in this field. This can be done within the first few days of your diagnosis if you are keen to begin treatment right away, or within two weeks if you prefer to take time to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the alternatives available to you.

If you aren't sure what you would prefer We suggest you talk with your GP prior to scheduling your private appointment as certain providers have different rules regarding whether they require an GP referral letter or not. Find out if your GP accepts a Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic to get a prescription medication.

Medication

Medication is an integral aspect of the treatment process for many people looking for a private ADHD diagnosis. Finding prescriptions from an NHS psychiatrist can be a hassle and long-winded. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs are often reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.

One method to circumvent this is to ask your GP to refer you to Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). This means that you can select one that provides a private assessment and titration service. This will help you reduce time and be more convenient, particularly when you are on a tight schedule.

After you have been diagnosed, your doctor will evaluate you to determine if you need medication titration. You will be asked to fill in forms that vary by provider but the most common ones are self-report questionnaires and medical histories from childhood and adulthood. These will help your clinician determine any issues that could indicate that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medications if they're prescribed.

If you are being titrated, the medication will consist of a mixture of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. These will be carefully assessed and monitored to determine the most suitable combination for you. The titration process can be lengthy and may require some additional appointments before you're stable on your dose.

Depending on the type of medication you are taking, follow up appointments can be scheduled either monthly or quarterly. Your clinician will check that you are stable with the medication, note any side effects you have experienced and make any needed adjustments to ensure that you remain on a dose that is safe. You'll also be required to attend a regular health check which can include blood pressure readings, pulse and weight and an annual review.

For adhd titration process , it may be that they are happy with their medication and don't require an additional discussion regarding their titration. However, for those who require further discussions regarding the titration process and treatment plan, it's possible that they will be referred back to the same private clinic that conducted their initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration consultation will be included in the consultation fees and they will be given their medication through a private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This can cost more than an NHS prescription since the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
