Keys

Lost car keys are an everyday occurrence and can be a real trouble. However the process of getting a replacement key from a dealer is expensive. UK Auto Locksmiths will offer you a cheaper alternative and use the most modern equipment and software that can help. All you need is an VIN number and proof of ownership to allow them to complete the task. The other information they need is the type of key you need. They can supply remotes, flip keys and even Fobs. They can also assist you to programme any new keys.

Remotes

Most Seat drivers keep a spare remote in the house or garage, but when they lose it getting replacement keys from a dealer is expensive and time consuming. This is because most dealers will programme the key using the car's computer which will need to be reset. However, many people buy second-hand keys off the internet that are not programmed to their car. This can be a much cheaper alternative to going to the dealer. But, these key will not start the car because they will not have a transponder chip inside them. You can see the chip (yellow) in this picture below, it is a Dual Inline Package or DIP 18 pin chip. There are also a diode, transistor and resonator, all these parts make up the key's circuit.

Immobilisers

The amount of thefts from cars began to decline as car immobilisers became popular in the late 1990s. However, thieves are always looking for ways to evade security systems. They were able get around the earlier immobiliser systems using a scanning tool to locate the transponder's code chip and then copying it to the blank key, but since then, technology has advanced and they've had to devise new tricks.

Fortunately, the majority immobilisers we offer and install are Thatcham Cat 2 certified. This means they've been tested and approved by the Thatcham Research organisation. This not-for-profit organisation is the system of grading and approval for aftermarket alarms and security devices, including car immobilisers.

When the Thatcham approved system is activated it will send a signal coded to the Engine Management System (EMS) of the vehicle. This will stop the motor from running without the proper key. This means that if a car has been "hot wired" following entry the engine will be shut down within 30 seconds, making it impossible to start.

As with any computer immobiliser, the immobiliser can have issues. Sometimes the internal battery or key fob will require replacement. The best option is always go for a professional to do the task, since it will ensure that everything is installed correctly and that it works.

Transponders

A transponder sends an identification signal to the receiver when it is questioned. This helps keep a distinct line between aircrafts and signals an aircraft to air traffic controllers if it is using an active radar system. The information that the transponder sends back varies according to the kind of system.

Transponders can also be found on spacecrafts and satellites, allowing them to connect with Earth systems, such as cell phone networks, or other networks of communication. These devices receive incoming signals on a range of frequencies, and then transmit signals on a different frequency, similar to the way repeaters operate in terrestrial cellular phone networks.

Transponders with sophisticated technology are commonly found on board aircraft. They monitor flight status and provide information about navigation including the aircraft's position speed, altitude, and speed. Air traffic controllers rely on the information from these transponders to manage routes and ensure safety.

Many personal keys contain a transponder chip in addition to transponders for aircraft. The chips are passive and do not require batteries. This allows the ECU to read the transponder's signal when it is placed in the ignition lock.

The flight deck of the majority of airplanes contains a switch that pilots can press to switch their transponders either on or off. They can also select a "ident" mode that lets the transponder's unique squawk codes and makes it stand out on the crowded air-traffic control screen.
