The Reasons Private ADHD Titration Is Everyone's Passion In 2023
Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a national shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and a growing global demand.

Our service provides private ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding via Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of a single prescription.

Titration

A thorough assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted with a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This will include an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your evaluation You will be advised whether medication is appropriate for your situation. This will take place during your follow-up appointment (which can be scheduled in person by video link, in person or by phone). Your doctor will explain the various options for medication and, if you choose to begin taking medication, we will offer to titrate the dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process can take several weeks and it involves gradually altering your child's dosage until the appropriate balance has been achieved. It's not uncommon to to adjust up to three different medications until you discover the one that best suits your child's ADHD. It is essential for parents to take part in this process of titration and keep an eye on their child's behavior to inform the doctor whether the medication is working or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment you will receive an individual prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You'll be required to attend regular appointments every six months to monitor your medication - this includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual exams are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is completed, you'll be able to make follow up appointments with your psychiatrist, if appropriate. The appointment usually takes place via a zoom video call, although in certain cases it may be possible to schedule an audio only consultation (again at an additional cost).

At this point we will discuss treatment options and come up with a unique ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a review of your medication dose and an examination of any negative side effects you may be experiencing. These titrations cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. Costs for medication are extra and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will also inquire with you about your family history and the impact your ADHD symptoms can have on your life, as well as any relationship issues you might be having or other mental health issues you might be experiencing. This is because ADHD is a genetic disorder and it is essential to examine any family history that may indicate that you're at risk of developing the disorder.

During the assessment, it is essential that you are truthful and honest with your doctor, as they will use the information you provide to determine if you meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a crucial step, as a wrong diagnosis could result in an inappropriate prescription of medication.

If you've decided that you would like to be treated for your ADHD, we will then schedule a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialize in this field. If you want to start treatment immediately you can start treatment immediately following the diagnosis. Or you can wait two weeks to think about the implications of the diagnosis and what options you have.

If you are unsure of which one you prefer, we suggest that you talk to your GP prior to booking your private assessment as some providers have different policies about whether they require a GP referral letter or not. We also recommend to check if your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement', which means that once you are discharged from the clinic you will be referred back to them for the medication prescription.

Medication

For many people who seek an individual diagnosis of ADHD, medication is an important part of their journey. It isn't always easy to obtain an appointment with a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long, and GPs might be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Inquiring your GP to refer you to Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry UK and ADHD 360). You can select a provider that provides a private assessment service and titration. This will cut down your waiting time considerably and can be more convenient if you're working and have a busy schedule.

After you have been recommended, your physician will examine your condition to determine if you need medication adjustment. You will be asked to fill out forms that differ by doctor but the most common ones are self-report forms and medical histories from childhood to adulthood. These will help your clinician identify any factors that might indicate that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medications if they're prescribed.

If you are on a titration medication, this will usually consist of non-stimulant and stimulant medications. They will be assessed and monitored to determine the best combination for you. The titration process can be a lengthy process and may require multiple appointments before your dose is stable.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will be contingent on the type and amount of medication you're taking. They could be scheduled monthly or quarterly. Your physician will make sure that you are stable with the medication, record any side effects that you have experienced and make any necessary adjustments to ensure you remain on a safe dose. You'll also be required to attend a regular health check which can include blood pressure readings, pulse and weight as well as an annual review.

For some, it may be that they are happy with their medication and don't need an additional discussion regarding their titration . For those who require further discussion about the titration process and treatment plan, it's possible that they will be passed back to the same private clinic that conducted their initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration consultation will be included in the consultation fee, and they will be given their medication through a private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This could cost more than an NHS prescription because the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
