5. Seat Keys Replacement Projects For Any Budget
Seat Alhambra Key Problems

Seat's Jumbo MPV family is among the best in its class when it comes to resales value. And with a brand new model now available it's even more impressive.

There are a variety of reasons why your key fob may not function properly, such as a dead coin battery, water damage, receiver module issues or signal interference. This article will walk you through the steps to make it work again.

Water Damage

If your seat alhambra key fob is able to withstand washing cycles or a bath in the pool or ocean then it's probably equipped with an amazing waterproof chip. However, don't make this a habit because exposure to water in excess increases the chance of the key fob being damaged. If your key fob stops functioning after exposure to rain or clean tap water, remove the battery and clean the electronic component with a paper towel. Let it dry completely before replacing the battery. In the event of exposure to soapy water or salt, it is recommended to wash the chip with isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner prior to attempting to insert the battery back in.

Faulty Receiver Module

If you've tried a new battery for a button and the key fob still does not lock or unlock, it's likely that the receiver module has discovered a problem. The good news is that it is a fairly easy repair that is inexpensive, you can simply disconnect the battery for a few minutes (first take off the negative cable then press the horn button a few times) to eliminate any remaining electricity, and then connect it in reverse order e.g. positive cable first, then negative.

ESP Warning Light - If the ESP warning light is flashing, this is normal and means that the vehicle is driving through terrain where the traction between the road surface and tyres is not ideal like snow, gravel or lots of surface water. If the ESP warning light is continuously flashing, it means there is a fault within the system. This can be detected with a iCarsoft i908 Seat OBD Code Reader which will provide a precise fault description.

Dead Coin Battery

A dead battery for the coin is among the most common reasons for the seat alhambra keys to stop working. The key fob comes with an insignificant button cell battery that keeps it powered. Replace it with a new battery with the same voltage, size and specification as the original. When replacing the battery on the key fob, remove all metal clips and ensure that the contacts on the key fob are clean and corrosion-free.

If seat spare key was exposed to water (such as soapy or rain tap water), it is recommended to remove and clean the chip with an electronic cleaner or isopropylethanol before installing a brand new battery. The chip may be permanently damaged by water. If the key fob is still not working after replacing the battery, it could be necessary to replace the entire key fob.

Faulty Receiver Module

If your key fob stopped functioning after replacing the battery but it didn't perform, or stopped working in a sudden manner the receiver module could have experienced a malfunction. The receiver module is responsible for capturing the radio frequency signals sent by your remote key fob, and converting them into electrical commands that are then used by other modules in the car.

If the receiver module is defective it will not be able to accept any commands from your remote key fob. In this instance you'll have to visit a dealer to reprogramme your key fob as well as a new receiver module.

The key fob is fitted with rubber seals that block water from entering the chip inside. If you immerse the key fob into salty or soapy water it could cause damage to the chip. If your key fob won't work, you could try cleaning the chip using isopropyl or an electronic cleaner.

If the keys are in a pair but the receiver module has developed a fault you can try rebooting all of the onboard electronics by disconnecting the 12 volt battery for a few minutes. Connect the battery in reverse (negative cable to positive first). This resets all the electronic components on board and restore their functionality.

Faulty electronic chip

The key fob is equipped with a small electronic chip that sends a signal to the receiver module every time the key is used. If the signal doesn't match the one stored by the car the immobilizer will stop the engine and prevent the vehicle from starting. If the key fob isn't working and you are not able to reprogram it this could be due a damaged chip.

The chip in the key fob may need to be changed to make it work again. This can be accomplished by taking the key fob away from its case, and using pins or needles to contact each metal retaining clip. If these are corroded or damaged, you'll have to replace them to allow the remote control to work. Make sure that the replacement batteries are of the same size, voltage, and specification as the original one.

The Seat Alhambra is an attractive and well-designed model however, just like any other vehicle, it can sometimes experience issues with specific components or equipment. Some owners have reported problems with the automatic climate control system. It is prone to malfunction and become stuck in a particular setting. The infotainment system may also malfunction and freeze the screens.
