Then slide the cover back downwards and towards the key-ring loop section until it becomes loose and falls off. Remove the cover to reveal the hidden mechanical key blade. How to Start Your Vehicle

After the fob is open, locate the CR2032 3V battery and remove it. Replace the battery and snap the fob.

Note: Some older Volvos are powered by a different kind of battery which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have the thickness of 7/10ths a millimeter less than a CR2032 and you'll have to be extra cautious when replacing your battery.
