The Most Innovative Things That Are Happening With 3 Wheeler Buggies
3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeler is perfect for rough terrain providing an easy ride for your child. They can also be easier to push and maneuver than a four-wheel buggy particularly those with fabric sling seats or seat units that are placed perfectly in the frame, offering the best geometry and weight distribution.

Stability

Three-wheeled vehicles are very stable, which makes them a great option for off-road walks (especially when they are equipped with a seat that is all-terrain or off-road). They often feature oversized front wheels, which cope well with kerbs and bumps as well as rough ground. Some models even have a lockable front wheel for extra stability on uneven terrain.

It is important to keep in mind that 3-wheel buggies have a lower center of gravity than their 4-wheeled counterparts and, therefore, can topple over more readily. The best 3-wheeled pushchairs have been designed with perfect geometry to ensure they remain solid in all conditions. They should be able to turn at a whim and be easy to steer with just one hand, and have a 360o swivelling front wheel which makes them perfect for manoeuvring and navigating difficult terrain.

For extremely difficult surfaces you should look for a model with air-filled tyres, also known as pneumatic tyres. They are designed to handle non-paved tracks and are able to deal with mud, gravel, rock and so on. Many all-terrain buggies feature an adjustable front wheel that can be locked to provide stability when tackling extremely rough ground too.

A 3-wheeled pram is a great choice for those who run and love to speed up the hill. This is particularly true if you are planning to connect an infant car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is a great example, with a world-facing seat that can recline flat and has improved 5-point harness and storage space for all your equipment (plus an extendable 50+ sun hood). It's lightweight, compact and suitable from birth and can be used in conjunction with a carrycot or car seat. It can also be used for light jogging, but is not intended for serious runners.

Weight

If you're looking for a buggy to tackle terrain that is difficult, you should choose one with large tires. They can handle cobbles, grass and dirt tracks while providing the smoothest ride for anyone. They are also great for jogging as they come with suspension and are easy to climb and descend kerbs. The downside is that they're a bit heavy to push.

The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the most suitable 3 wheel buggy for use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3-wheel buggy has 16 rear wheels, and an swivel wheel lockable to the front making it extremely maneuverable. It has tyres with air which require pumping up from time to time. It can be used by children up until the age of three. MFM reviewer Kath says that her toddler loved the shape of the seat and found it easy to drive with her 3 year old on board.

Another option that is great is the Baby Jogger Versa GT, with a movable handlebar as well as a hood that is of high-quality with 50+ UV protection. It is also easy to move kerbs upwards and downwards and fits in a small car boot. It can be used as a stroller along with an infant carrycot or toddlers.

Fabric slings are set inside the frame, not on top like modular seats. 3 wheel pushchair travel system delivers a lower center of gravity that is at the ideal height, making it easier to push and lighter to pop the kerb (you should never overestimate the amount of times you'll have to do this as a new parent!)

Seating

There are many options for seating in three wheelers. For newborns, there is the option to use the included carrycot and (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a comfortable and cozy lie flat bed that can be used on and off the buggy), while older babies and toddlers can use the world-facing or parent facing seat that is spacious and padded, and comes with adjustable ventilation. The seats don't fully recline, but they can be lowered to the lowest position. This should allow your child to have plenty of headroom and space.

A sling seat made of fabric is also available. It offers the advantage of being placed snugly within the frame rather than sitting on top as an open-back seat. This provides a lower center of gravity as well as a perfect weight distribution. This makes it much easier and lighter to push particularly over bumpy terrains or curbs and MFM reviewer Kath really liked the way that this style of seat dealt with these challenges.

This type of buggy comes with an enormous basket, along with other beneficial features, such as an extendable hood with 50+ UV protection, an easy to use brake pedal and some innovative visibility lights that can be positioned in front of the occupants to ensure safety when riding on rough terrain.

If you're searching for a stroller that can grow with your family The sport(tm) is a first in the world that can take in infants and be adapted to accommodate two or three children as they grow. All within one footprint.

Storage

The 3-wheeled frame is much more sturdy and can be moved with just one hand. It's also ideal for terrain that is difficult. However, it also means that the shopping basket doesn't hold as much as a four-wheeled buggy.

A top-quality ATP will feature pneumatic tyres, a padded grip for comfort and excellent suspension. It should be able to accommodate a carrycot or a car seat, so you can use it from the time of birth.

MFM's reviewers have noticed that the 3-wheeler frame can't fit through all the doors in their homes, or small car booties - make sure you check the dimensions of the buggy when it's folded prior to purchasing in case you're concerned about space.

Look for a 3-wheeler with 2 (or 3!) seats. This is the best choice for your child's future and will save you money. The iCandy strawberry sport is among the top of them; it can be used as a single from day dot and later converts to a twin buggies when your baby begins walking.

Tyres

Air filled tyres have been designed to provide your child with an easier ride by cushioning bumps and uneven surfaces. These are included on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted's Sport that MFM reviewer Kath said was "an amazing ride for her toddler". She also noted that the grippy tyres make it easy to navigate cobbles and kerbs.

These tyres can be difficult to maintain and will require air pressure topped up regularly. They are also more susceptible to punctures than foam tyres so you'll need to make sure that you have a repair kit along with a spare inner tube and pump in case you go you're out and about in your buggy.

PU tyres are more commonly used on pushchairs since they are less expensive than air-filled tyres, but they are equally durable. PU tyres are easily identified by their matte finish and soft feel. They also slide easily on smooth and tightly woven surfaces.

If you rub your hands over the tyres you can tell if they are rubber or PU. If it feels as if it is sliding then it's a PU. You can also check that your buggy is fitted with PU tyres by sliding the tyres over flat, clean surfaces They'll be able to roll easily and should fit snugly in their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres can withstand the rough terrain that comes with high-performance buggies. The downside is that the foam could shrink and make your buggy feel less stable, since it loses its springy quality. Additionally, these kinds of tyres can typically be noisy because they create a lot of noise as you turn and make your way around town.
