What is the story of Hades?

Hades is the god who rules the underworld. He also oversees death. He also is responsible for the trials and punishments of souls that leave this world. This role was an important aspect of the Greek belief that there is an afterlife. He has a number of friends in the Underworld which include Thanatos, his twin brother, and Hypnos the sleeper.

The Underworld is a terrifying place for the living, but Hades often featured in the stories of heroes who journeyed there. Hades was often depicted with beards and a sombre, solemn expression. He is usually shown wearing his helm (sometimes known as the Cap of Invisibility) and with Cerberus the three-headed guardian dog of the Underworld at his side. He also has the biden, which is a fork with two prongs, modeled after Poseidon’s trident, or Plouton's cornucopia (the horn of abundance).

Hades' father Cronus was a concerned and insecure ruler. He was afraid that one of his children would take over his reign and then take over the entire universe. To prevent this from happening the king began to eat his infants. He also swallowed his daughters Hestia Demeter Hera and Persephone. The children that were regurgitated, after they were freed were able to fight with their brothers Zeus (and Poseidon) in the epic battle between generations known as the Titanomachy.

The Greeks divided the cosmos after the war. Hades was given the Underworld as his part. The Underworld was regarded as a separate realm from Heaven and Earth, and it was believed to be the place where all souls could eventually end up in after death.

Hades and his companions met the deceased when they died. The ones who had a good life were allowed to drink the River Lethe which made them forget about their bad deeds. The ones who did not lead an ideal life were sent to Tartarus to be punished for their deeds. In the past, Greeks believed that if a person's soul wasn't in the Underworld they would wander around the earth as ghosts, until they were found and returned to heaven.

What is the problem with Hades?

Hades is the most recent Rogue-lite released by Supergiant Games and it's more difficult than the previous releases. The 64 Heat Gauge difficulty level is simply too much for many players to manage, even with seeds and mods. Some players utilize God Mode to get the best possible results from their runs. This feature is a huge success with the community.

Hades's difficulty is a result of its random elements. The game gets harder and more difficult over time as you master enemy patterns, upgrade your weapons, and gain new abilities. This is incredibly motivating to go back and play again, even after you die. Some players are hesitant to start the game from scratch after losing a game because they want to see the entire story. God Mode solves this problem by allowing players bypass the random elements and play the game in a certain way.

The game of Hades is based on an attempt to escape from the Underworld which is guided by Zeus, Athena, and other gods of Olympus. The player is Zagreus, the son of Hades, who is desperate to free himself from his father's enslavement to the Underworld. He is supported in his struggle by Nyx and his adoptive mother, and the gods of Olympus. Hades, however, is not convinced of Zagreus's capability to escape and uses monsters from the Underworld to stop him.

If the player isn't battling demons and other creatures from the underworld when they are not in the House of Hades, a palace where characters from Greek mythology show up to interact with Zagreus and further develop their own subplots. The player can also bring back the lovers Orpheus and Eurydice and restore Achilles his life and also unravel the mystery that surrounds Hades' family. The House of Hades also allows the player to earn rewards of a rare nature and unlock items of beauty for the next adventure.

Supergiant has confirmed that the sequel to Hades is in the in the works, and will introduce a new hero known as Melinoe to the story. Melinoe is a sorceress and witch with powerful magical powers and "deadly abilities" with a dark weapon. Supergiant is expanding the Underworld by adding new locations and challenges, and players will be able to wield powers granted by the Olympians to help them conquer them.
