How to Replace a Saab 93 Key Fob

Every car must have a remote/transmitter that can unlock or lock your vehicle. The batteries in these devices could be faulty.

If you're considering buying a Saab 93 and don't have two keys, you can get one for around $400. This is done by purchasing a new TWICE module from the dealer and installing it with a special hand-held computer called a Tech2.

The good news is that the majority of modern Saab vehicles can have a secondary key added to the system. This is possible without replacing the original computer. The dealer will have to use a special handheld computer known as a Tech-2 to insert the second key and then program it into the vehicle. Some independent garages are able do this, however the process is more complicated and they will need to re-programme the EEPROM on your car's computer in order to accept the new key.

Replacement key fobs

Saab owners whose last key was stolen or lost will need to replace it in the earliest time possible. The steps required to obtain an original working fob require the service department of the dealer. It could cost hundreds, which could include an entirely new key and TWICE device, which is a central electronic that can be used to detect theft.

If you have a spare key, the process is much less expensive. The new key must be connected to the original TWICE Module. A second-hand one is not compatible. However, a genuine OEM replacement can be purchased from the dealer for only a fraction of the price it will cost.

If you require a metal key, the cost of making it is another consideration. Most dealers can offer this service, but it may take several weeks to get the car and the part programmed.

The Turbo X special edition with more power will be available for 2008 only. This model has a distinctive rear seat that folds flat to the floor, which adds to the cargo capacity. It also comes with a distinctive rear spoiler, as well as an aggressive bumper.
