Changing the Battery in Your Mazda 3 Key Fob

It's frustrating to drive off at the end of a long workday and discover that the key fob is dead. Fortunately, it is an easy fix using simple battery replacement from the hardware store or big box retailer.

A spare key fob for your Mazda 3 is an inexpensive alternative to not having to be towed to a dealer to have them re-program your keys.

Battery Replacement

Change the battery in your Mazda 3 key fob is an easy process that can do at home. However, you should replace the battery when it goes out of service, or if the key fob shows a message on the multi-information display, "Low key fob battery. Replace battery."

To open the key fob case it requires a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver as well as some patience. Locate a notch or gap in the bottom part of the metal of your Mazda 3's key fob and insert the head of the screwdriver to pry off the lower part. Repeat the process for the top metal piece, but be sure not to scratch the rubber ring that is on the bottom of the case.

When the fob case is opened, you'll notice the slots on either side of the case, which houses the battery. Use the tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver to gently the case open, beginning at one end and shifting to the other. Remove the old battery, and put in the new CR2025 to ensure that it's in the right orientation for proper polarity. Put mazda 2 key of the battery on again and attach both sides of your key fob case by pressing until they click.

Now that you've replaced the battery Check the fob to ensure it is working by locking and unlocking your doors. If everything is in order then your Mazda 3 remote features can be used again.

Pairing Issues

This could mean that the transmitter in your car may have been damaged. This is usually a matter for a professional and you will require a brand new key fob.

If you've tried to replace the battery and reprogramme the key fob, but it's not working, the chip inside the key fob could be faulty. This can happen if the keyfob has been dropped, exposed to saltwater, or touched by dirty fingers.

You'll need the tiny "key", which is built into the seam, to take off the circuit board and determine the problem. You can then examine the electronic chip for corrosion or damage. To avoid damaging the chip, it's recommended to clean the chip with a new paper towel.

You may also inspect the battery connector's terminals to determine if they're damaged or cracked. If this is the case, then carefully reconnecting them can generally restore the functionality of the key fob. In the same way, you can examine the buttons to see if they are worn or damaged. If the buttons are loosened, they can be resoldered to their original position unless they have physically snapped.

Interference Signals

Few things are more frustrating than staring at a "No Fob Detected" message when trying to start your car. It happens at the worst possible times, like the time you're late to work or you're trying to collect your children from school/daycare. The good thing is that there are steps you can take to investigate the issue and determine what is causing it.

Interference signals can cause the remote key fob to cease working in a proper manner. This could be caused by objects like weather conditions, buildings, and transmitters that use the same frequency. Interference can also occur when you have aftermarket equipment installed in your vehicle that transmits at the same frequency as the key fob.

The key fob could be damaged if it is exposed to salt water or water. Water can get into the rubber seals of the electronic chip, particularly when the key fob is submerged in water for a prolonged duration. This could cause the chip's function to cease and may require replacement of the key fob. If you have a key that is able to be programmed or programmed, you can clean it with isopropyl and electronic cleaners to restore its function. If this doesn't work the chip, it's likely to be fried and will require to be replaced.

Locking and Unlocking the Doors

The key fob's buttons send electronic signals to a solenoid inside the car that then transforms the signal into a mechanical action that locks and unlocks doors. If your door lock isn't working it could be because of an issue with the solenoid. This will require experts from repair shops to look into.

A dead battery of 12 volts can also stop the fob from functioning correctly. This can occur if your battery fails to charge or if your contacts become damaged. This problem can be fixed within a few minutes using a new battery.

If the key fob isn't functioning after you replace the battery or re-program it then the problem may be related to the receiver module. The device receives radio frequency signals from the key fob and interprets them into controlling the functions of the vehicle. If it malfunctions it could be costly to fix.

To check whether this is the case, start by inserting the spare key into the key slot and turning the ignition to ON. Press the key fob button three times in a matter of 10 seconds without removing it. The Mazda 3 system synchronizes the key with the vehicle, so you can use it as your primary remote for driving. This allows you to program up three keys.
