A Step-By Step Guide For Choosing The Right Lightweight Stroller
Why Buy a Lightweight Stroller?
A lightweight stroller can be an excellent investment for parents who prioritize mobility, flexibility, and cost. It is a great option for parents who experience back pain when pushing or dragging an extremely heavy stroller.
In our stroller testing, we evaluated many different strollers that were lightweight. We evaluated the following features:
Easy to Assemble
A stroller that is light in weight is a great option for parents who are always on the move. They are designed to be simple to assemble and fold, to carry and to store. Many also feature an extendable canopy to protect your child from sun and rain. They are great for navigating busy roads, crowded malls and public transportation.
It is essential to consider the age and weight of the stroller when selecting one. The majority of single-seat strollers are designed for kids that weigh between 55 and 55 pounds. Most do not accommodate infant car seats. However, some have the possibility of adding a bassinet style seat for babies who can't sit upright. In addition, consider a stroller which includes plenty of padding inside the seat, a reclining mechanism, and a large canopy to protect your child from the elements.
Some lightweight strollers can be assembled out of the box, making them a breeze to use. Some lightweight strollers, like the Contours Itsy are only 12.3 pounds in weight and fold down by pressing a button. In addition, this lightweight stroller can be carried with a padded strap that can be attached to the back of the seat.
The Thule Shine stroller is a lightweight stroller that comes with all of the features you would want in the stroller. It comes with a huge canopy and UPF 50+ protection. It was wonderful that the Newborn Pack can be purchased separately and is suitable for infants. The telescoping handlebar is super simple to adjust and can be set for different heights. The stroller also offers plenty of storage space, including a large front pocket and a zipped-close underseat basket that can hold up to 12.5 pounds of equipment.
While this stroller isn't the cheapest in our tests, it does have numerous features that parents will appreciate. It is fully assembled, has an easy, one-button recline mechanism, and can fit into the overhead bins of most airplanes. Its only downside is that it does not come with a leg rest that can assist your child, and the storage space is smaller than our other lightweight stroller options.
Easy to Fold
Based on the model you choose, lightweight strollers can fold up into various shapes and sizes. A few of our top choices come with a simple one-handed folding process, while others have a reclined seat that can be adjusted in multiple positions or an extended canopy that can shield you child from the elements and sun. Some of the top strollers for travel also come with straps for carrying and an ample undercarriage to store things in.
The Kolcraft Cloud Plus is one of the most easy models to fold. It can be folded with just one hand, and even while your child is inside (although this isn't recommended). It also unfolds quickly, and comes with an adjustable handle for when you're at different heights than your partner. The sun shade that is flat over the top isn't enough to block the rays though, and the undercarriage isn't as roomy as some other strollers.
Silver Cross Jet 4 is an ultra-light stroller that is an excellent travel option. Push Chairs And Prams folds up into a compact package that can be carried into a suitcase, and it fits in most airplane overhead bins. The stroller is comfortable to carry with either an adjustable handle or strap. The Jet 4 is a bit expensive, but it's packed with a variety of features for parents like a wide recline and UPF 50plus canopy.
Another great travel stroller is the UPPAbaby G-Luxe that folds up into a triangular form and is nearly as small as a backpack for babies. It's got enough space for bags for a weekender bag and a diaper bag and an extra pocket for the back. There are two parent cupholders. The G-Luxe is only restricted by the fact that it does not fully recline and has no comfortable strap for carrying. However, it's ideal for families who are always on the move.
The Cybex Libelle is the most compact stroller when it comes to folding. This stroller folds down into a rectangle as thin as the size of a passport. It can easily be put into bags or backpacks. It can be rolled down the aisles of an airplane and is perfect for checking gates, cabin storage or even for storage in overhead compartments.
Easy to carry
In addition to taking up less space in your car, light strollers are easy to carry and store using a carrier which makes them ideal for families who are constantly on the move. Some fold as small as an umbrella so you can put them in the corner of your trunk or into your diaper bag when not using them. Some come with a handle and some have an adjustable strap that can be carried over your shoulder.
The smallest strollers can be folded into a rectangle and measure 12x14x7 in. when folded. This is well within the airline carry-on limits. The Pockit is an example. It is folded in two steps and requires both hands however, it's so light you can carry it as a backpack or carry-on bag. Another compact option is the Cybex Libelle, which is slightly larger than the Pockit and also folds into a rectangle shape but measures 13x18x7 inches when folded.
They may not roll as smoothly as full-size strollers with bigger tires and more powerful suspensions however they're a great option for maneuvering in tight spaces such as airport terminals or narrow corridors on public transport. They can also be used on rough terrain, such as cobblestone roads or rocky beaches, though your child is likely to experience more bumps and bruises than in a top-of-the-line full-size stroller equipped with a robust suspension system.
UPPAbaby's new Minu stroller is an excellent example of a lightweight stroller that offers a lot of functionality for the price. Its suspension is able handle rough terrain. It has a good canopy however, it's not as big as our top pick. The recline mechanism is easy to use. However, it doesn't fold as small as the Yoyo2 or Munchkin Sparrow and weighs more than the Bugaboo Butterfly, so you may need to gate-check it on flights. It does come with a clever feature, though: a retractable footrest that doubles as an handle when the stroller is folded.
Contours Quick Elite is another fantastic option. It can accommodate 30 different car seat models (adapter required), or a child up to 50 pounds. It's not as lightweight like our other top picks but it's still pretty compact when folded and it has an under-seat storage basket that can accommodate in a backpack.
Easy to store
Think about a stroller that features a compact folding to ensure that it is easy to store and move. They usually come with stands that can be used to keep them upright when they're not in use. This lets you fit the stroller in your backseat or trunk so that you can quickly access it when needed.
Look for a lightweight stroller that includes an accessory bag or pouch. This bag makes it easy to carry the stroller on your back, which is ideal for airport security and other tight spaces. This feature is particularly helpful for those who want to use your stroller's lightweight design on a plane, where many airlines require you to check the gate of your stroller for security.
The Contours Itsy is a great example of a stroller that is light that's easy to carry. It weighs just 12.3 pounds and folds with one hand. It also has a powerful dual-wheel suspension, a movable handlebar that's ideal for short and tall people, and a large underseat storage basket. However, it doesn't recline and doesn't have a cup holder for parents. However, it's an excellent option if you want a lightweight travel stroller.
When you're looking for a lightweight stroller, you must also be aware of the quality of the build. You should select one with a sturdy frame and high-quality materials so that it can endure wear and tear for many years. Find a stroller that has a safety harness and wheels that lock.
Target offers a range of strollers featuring innovative features that will ease your life while you're on the move. From adjustable handlebars that accommodate different heights, to spacious storage baskets that easily store diaper bags, purses and weekender bags, these modern strollers offer unrivalled convenience.
