Titration

It is not uncommon to to adjust up to three different medications before you find the one that best suits your child's ADHD. It is essential that parents take part in the titration and be on the lookout for their child's behavior so they can let the doctors know if the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you do not decide to return to NHS care and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be provided with a prescription from a private pharmacy that you'll have to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fees). You will need to attend six-monthly appointments to check your medication. This includes the measurement of pulse and blood pressure. Annual checks are also required.

Follow-up appointments

If you aren't sure which one you prefer, we suggest that you speak to your GP prior to scheduling your private appointment as certain providers have different rules regarding whether they require an GP referral letter or not. We also suggest to confirm that your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement which means that once discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the prescription for the medication.

Medication

The process of getting a prescription from an NHS psychiatrist can be difficult and long-winded.
