Description

This 1942 GPW is in excellent ‘driver’ condition. This means it isn’t an award-winning $60,000.00 concours vehicle, a restoration so perfect and valuable that it can never be enjoyed on roads and gravel tracks for the remainder of its very pretty life. No, this genuine stunner of a WW2 jeep is a rust free, mechanically sound, well maintained example of a truly iconic vehicle that definitely can be driven to parks, parades, and parade grounds alike. The jeep retains its valuable six-volt electronics, and it has been equipped with indicators for road use. The jeep features its correct 134ci ‘Go Devil’ inline four engine; it fires-up effortlessly and purrs as quietly as a sleeping kitten.

Recent mechanical work includes:

New period correct voltage regulator.

New period correct Carter carburettor.

New period correct steel fuel lines.

New period correct fuel filter.

New upper and lower kingpin bearings have been fitted. New camber block studs/nuts have been fitted and blocks shimmed to spec to produce correct bearing preload. Front wheel bearings have been cleaned, repacked and adjusted to spec. This has removed all unwanted play in front steering knuckles.

Two new Spicer drive-shafts have been fitted to the front axle.

Front & rear axles have been serviced with fresh oil, and both front & rear pinion seals have been renewed.

The jeep comes with a brand new heavy duty canvas ‘summer top’ of exceptional quality, specially ordered from the world’s finest (UK) supplier.

The jeep comes with five period correct cargo packs, four mounted on its flanks, one attached to the spare tire. These cargo packs really add to the jeep’s appearance as a true warhorse.

The jeep comes with a period correct radio aerial and mount, this used to fly the forty-eight star US flag of the war years, and the famed Normandy insignia of the 101st Airborne, E Company of the legendary Band of Brothers.

The jeep is equipped with five brand new 7×16 ‘military’ Firestones. These are slightly bigger than original equipment, lending the jeep a very meaningful, purposeful stance.

The jeep comes with a parade quality reproduction of an M1 Garand, to enhance the universal rifle carrier attached to the windshield surround.

The jeep comes with the iconic four-braid hemp tow rope, end-whipped in white paracord, and wrapped in coils around the front bumper, just as it should be.

The jeep comes with a highly desirable Steve Matchett custom made (fully functional) tool storage box, bespoke designed to fit perfectly between the front bumper and the jeep’s iconic grille. This box has been stencilled, and its olive drab paint ‘aged’ to look the part.

Again, this jeep is not concours perfect… but that merely makes it the most perfect jeep to be driven, the most perfect jeep to be enjoyed for all its worth for many, many years to come.

The eightieth anniversary of the June 6th 1944 D-Day landings is nearly upon us. This represents an outstanding, affordable opportunity to own a highly significant piece of American World War Two history.

Own and drive with pride.

Happy to negotiate on price for serious buyers. All others not so much.
