I wonder if you know of anyone with a restored, close-to-original, four-cyl jeep, between the years 1944-65.

Mechanical reliability is more important than the paint job. I’m not looking for a show car on the outside. I’m not a collector or a rich man looking for a toy, either.

The jeep will be a daily driver, averaging 15 miles a day on city roads, with 30-mile trips on the highway to the VA hospital every few months. Hence, as soon as I buy the vehicle, I’ll be paying someone to put in an overdrive (hopefully a Warn, to keep it original), to decrease engine stress and increase gas mileage.

Why an old jeep? I learned to drive on a jeep; my first vehicle was a jeep; went on my first dates in a jeep; married my first date in a jeep, and I’m still married to my first date nearly 50 years later. (Thankfully, she likes jeeps, too.) I’m old (65) now and want my last vehicle to be an old jeep. Some people just belong in jeeps. I’m one of those people.

My father served as an artillery forward observer with Patton’s Army in Europe during War II; I was an artillery forward observer for paratroop infantry with the 82nd and 101st Airborne divisions in Viet Nam, 1968-1969. I wanted to be a good soldier and own a jeep since I was six years old. In short, jeeps are in my blood and connected to sacred times. If you want to know more about me, you can Google my name, Greg Gianas.

Since I live in Seattle, I will soon need a top and good windshield wipers, the best I can buy, if the vehicle doesn’t have a top or good windshield wipers.

I judge vehicles by how the owner keeps the engine compartment and how often he or she changes the oil. Every vehicle I’ve owned has surpassed 400,000 miles on the original engine, perhaps because I change the oil and filters every 2,000 miles without fail. As previously mentioned, the jeep doesn’t need to be pretty on the outside, but it does need to be extremely well-maintained and rock “solid” on the inside (mechanical and electrical).

Since I’m not mechanically inclined (I’m a mechanical idiot, if the truth be told), I don’t want to buy a vehicle that another mechanical idiot rebuilt. Whoever restored it needs to have known what they were doing. I’m familiar with pricing for all Willys versions.

If you know of someone with such a jeep, please let me know as soon as you can. I’m a caged greyhound for an old, solid, reliable jeep.

I have a project for sale that includes two CJ5′s. One is a complete Jeep (year unknown and no title) with a 225 V6, 3 speed, and all running gear. The body on this Jeep is bad, but it has all parts needed to finish the second Jeep, including a metal top in very good condition. The second Jeep is a 1970 CJ5, (Have title) with a southern rust free frame, V6, all running gear, with many new parts including: new 11″ brake drums and backing plates, new front and rear springs, new shocks, etc. I have saved the best part for last. This package includes a brand new metal tub, new metal front fenders, new metal tailgate, excellent used hood, and excellent used windshield frame. The metal tub is not the cheap generic tubs that require extensive work to make them fit and useable. This is the Repli-Tub from Willys Overland Motors. Go to willysoverland.com to see their line of bodies and parts. This package will be available after April 14th for inspection and purchase. All parts will be stored in a storage facility with in 15 minutes of my home. Please call 717-448-5404 between 8 AM and 8PM to schedule appointment or to discuss.
